Are your water pipes insulated? You might not worry about it since they run inside your home, but there are many reasons why insulating your pipes is beneficial. One issue that comes from uninsulated pipes is the possibility of heat transfer, causing your hot water to be cooled down by the cold water pipes and vise versa. If the pipes run through an area of the home that is not insulated well or that isn’t heated or cooled by your HVAC system, you will lose energy. There is also an increased risk for your pipes to freeze if they aren’t insulated.
Pipe insulation can be bought in premade sections that will tape shut over the pipes. In corners you might need to cut them to cover the elbow pipes. In many homes, you will find a lot of pipes that are exposed and easily insulated, and those are usually the ones that will need attention.
